Carol - joyful song originally New Year, which generally took the form of contemporary Christmas songs (referring to Christmas). Usually kept in a religious convention, originally derived from folk tradition, the melody is later also by many eminent composers. Carol variety of themes drawn from everyday life is called a Christmas song, which is in contrast to the Christmas carols in contemporary, everyday meaning of the word is not used in Christian religious services because of its secular character.

In the liturgy of the Catholic Church carols performed from Mass at midnight on Christmas Day (night 24/25 December), the feast of the Baptism of the Lord (Sunday after 6 January). The Polish tradition is allowed to sing their Christmas Presentation of the Lord (February 2). Was built in 1818 in a small town in the Austrian Alps. Its authors were the local church vicar, Fr. Joseph Mohr and organist Franz Gruber's.
